The Long A is one of the most popular lures on the market today, particularly in the northern half of the country. It was originally designed for the massive Bass fishing market in the US, however in Aussie Barra-fishing circles; no other lure has been able to match the reputation of the “Gold Bomber”. It is so popular in fact, that we have been able to get the American manufacturers to re-fit certain models with extra heavy-duty components to handle our local fish; as seen in the HD or “Barra Special” models.
The Long A is one of the best lures on the market when it comes to replicating a life-like swimming action. With a tight wiggle and castable design, the Long A should be the first lure tied on when chasing aggressive, predatory fish. Being a floater/diver it fishes very well around snaggy areas where it can be allowed to “back-up” if contact with structure is made.
The Long A can be fished with any style of retrieve from a slow “rolling” style to an aggressive jerk and pause. The design of the Long A also makes it an excellent lure for trolling.
It is available in 2 sizes; the B14A which measures 8.9cm and weighs 9.6g; and the B15A which measures 11.9cm and has a weight of 13g. There is also a jointed version of the B15A which is the same length and weighs 17g. All 3 will dive to around 2-3 feet on an average cast and when trolled will dive from 4-8 feet depending on line class.
Apart from being the No. 1 Barra lure in the country, the Bomber Long A will take a wide variety of fish species from Jacks, Queenies and Fingermark in the north to Kings, Flathead, Salmon and everything in between.
